(Sukuk.net - Jordan Times) Jordan and Qatar on Saturday agreed to establish a joint investment fund, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During talks between Prime Minister Nader Dahabi, who headed a high-ranking delegation to Doha, and his Qatari counterpart Hamad Ben Jassem Al Thani, the two sides also agreed to set up a business council comprising members from the private sector in both countries. They decided to hold an imminent meeting of the Jordanian-Qatari Commercial Committee.

Dahabi said Jordan is keen on improving and expanding its ties with Qatar in various fields in implementation of directives by His Majesty King Abdullah.

Jassem Al Thani described relations between the two countries as "historic", voicing hope that the outcome of Dahabi's visit would serve the interests of the two peoples.

The Qatari officials, who said they would encourage the private sector to invest in Jordan, said Doha is willing to remove all obstacles facing Jordanians seeking jobs in Qatar.

They offered to sign an agreement with Jordan similar to 15 previous deals Qatar has entered into with countries that export labour to the booming Gulf state.

King Abdullah has accepted an invitation from Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad Ben Khalifah Al Thani to visit Doha.

Sheikh Hamad renewed the invitation to His Majesty as he received Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi, who delivered a letter from King Abdullah to the Qatari leader, on Tuesday.

The message focused on "means to promote bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest".

Lozi told the emir that King Abdullah looks forward to visiting the Gulf state.

The Jordanian delegation to the Doha talks yesterday included Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Nasser Judeh, Labour Minister Bassem Salem and Industry and Trade Minister Amer Hadidi.

The Cabinet on Wednesday named Ahmad Mefleh as the Kingdom's ambassador to Qatar. Mefleh has served in several missions, most recently in the Kingdom's embassy in Tehran.
